Just the other day, it was announced that Kevin Durant is one of the few major NBA stars who is a "lock" for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. According to inside reports, Durant will play alongside LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jrue Holiday, Stephen Curry, and Jayson Tatum. However, many more NBA stars will also join the lineup in the next few months.
Durant is taking his role on the team very seriously and recently made a definitive statement about how dominant he wants the national team to be.
“I want to really make a statement on how dominant our players are. Like 40, 50-point wins. I want to do that,” Durant said.
The response to this was swift and wide-ranging. Some people online said that there was no way Team USA would be able to win by 40 to 50 points, especially as international players have gotten so much better over the last generation.
“Wemby and Gobert must be laughing at this statement,” one Twitter user said.
There is a very good chance that Durant, James, and the rest of Team USA will play against stars like Luka Doncic, Victor Wembanyama, Rudy Gobert, and others. Can they really beat them by such a wide margin?
While Team USA is set to be great because of the inclusion of these players, the recent FIBA World Cup shows that it won't be an easy walk to the gold medal. They will be playing against some incredibly competitive and proven stars.
However, Durant has helped Team USA win three gold medals during his career while James has assisted in two of those. They have the experience and Team USA will definitely have a ton of skill. Will that be enough to help them secured 40-50 point victories?
