The
Sacramento Kings roster received another hard blow yesterday, when
Malik Monk, the teams' second unite leader and Sixth Man of the Year candidate, suffered a knee injury during the matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, forcing him to exit the game. He's expected to be back in about four weeks, this is if his team manages to earn a spot to the upcoming playoffs.
The landscape continues gets more and more difficult to the Sacramento Kings. Yesterday they lost a crucial matchup at home against a direct rival to secure that coveted 6th spot that grants direct access to the playoffs. However, the worst news was finding out that Malik Monk sprained his rigth MCL and now he'll be out for almost a month.
The injury happened when
Luka Doncic was going for a lay-up and bumped into Monk, who was defending him. Malik now is added to a list of important team members that are ruled out at least for the remainder of the regular season. Yesterday it was confirmed that Kings' shooting guard Kevin Huerter will undergo surgery on his shoulder and he's expected to return next season.
Malik Monk was having a very good season averaging 15.4 points and 5.1 assists in 72 games off the Sacramento bench. This allowed him to be considered as one of the leaders to win Sixth Man of the Year.
Almost two weeks left for the beginning of the play-in tournament, with only nine games left, the squad led by
Domantas Sabonis and
De'Aaron Fox must pick up their pace and try to win every game left to avoid that and earn a direct trip to the upcoming playoffs. Monk could be available to help his team again at some point during the first round.
