Daryl Morey tried the impossible on the last day of the trade deadline. The head of the Philadelphia 76ers' sports office called Rob Pelinka to try to sign LeBron James and he replied with "Can I sign Joel Embiid? After the Angelenos' refusal, he called the Phoenix Suns' offices and asked one by one for Kevin Durant, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, receiving three 'noes' for an answer.
This is not the first time Morey has tried something similar, Back in 2014 he called Dallas Mavericks taking an interest in Dirk Nowitzki when he was the Houston Rockets GM.In any case, although he got refusals in his search for another big star, at least he came out of the last NBA market day with Buddy Hield under his arm.
This strategy of Morey's is not new; he has been recognized as one of the league's most aggressive executives in pursuing stars via trade. His insistence at this deadline may give insight into his plans for the offseason, where the 76ers could have $40 million to $60 million in free space.
