This showdown between two of the best teams in the Western Conference came down to the final seconds. In the end, the Denver Nuggets were able to hold off the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-112 at Target Center behind an MVP performance by Nikola Jokic.
In the final minutes of this game, the Wolves almost pulled off an amazing comeback. Jaden McDaniels hit multiple huge threes while Mike Conley also drilled a triple. However, Nikola Jokic always seemed to have an answer with his high basketball IQ.
Trailing by three with 4.2 seconds remaining, Anthony Edwards dribbled down the court and shot a deep three to send the game into overtime, but it came up just short. It was truly a competitive battle between these two teams and it would make for an entertaining playoff series.
The reigning Finals MVP had himself a night, as he finished with 35 points and 16 rebounds. Michael Porter Jr. scored 26 points and drained 4 threes in the process. Jamal Murray had 18 points with 11 assists while Aaron Gordon recorded 14 points and 11 boards.
The Timberwolves were without their 3 big men in Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid. Anthony Edwards did everything he could to be the hero as he finished with 30 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. He has proven himself to be a solidified superstar in this league and is making a case to be the future face of the NBA.
Jaden McDaniels had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 made three pointers in this one. Mike Conley ended with 13 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists while Kyle Anderson provided 12 points and 2 blocks.
This was a huge win for Denver as they improve to 48-21 and now secure the 2nd seed at the moment. The Nuggets are still fighting for the top seed and they would need to outplay the OKC Thunder in the final few weeks of the season to do so. This team is rolling at the moment, as they are 8-2 over their last 10 games and they’ll look to continue this hot streak on Thursday when they face the New York Knicks.
Meanwhile, this was a tough loss for Minnesota as they drop to 47-22 and currently sit as the 3rd seed in the West. They fought hard despite being short-handed and kept it a close game, which is something they should feel proud of as a team. The top seed is still in play for the Timberwolves but they need to focus one game at a time. Over the last 10 games they are 5-5 and their next matchup will be on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
