For the 2023-24 season, Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets is averaging 21.2 points, 4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. He's also been shooting a very strong 48.3% from the field and 42% from the three-point line.
However, despite his great season, he was chosen as an All-Star once again this year.
But Murray doesn't think that means he's not one of the best players in the league. Speaking to Fox Sports, Murray spoke about what he has accomplished.
"It's not like I need an All-Star nod just to be recognized as one of the best players out there every time I step onto the court," Murray said. "That's the mindset I have."
When Murray was asked if he's underrated, he said that he has the respect that matters most: that of fellow NBA players.
Murray said, "I think I definitely have the respect of my peers. That's all that matters. If I go on the court and I'm one of the most feared out there, regardless of what other people say, that's all I need."
Murray is one of only seven players in NBA history who has averaged 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game over at least 50 career playoff games. The only other players who have done that are LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Jerry West, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Stephen Curry.
Some analysts expected Murray to earn his first All-Star appearance this year because of how well he has been playing but he wasn't among the nominees and he missed out on his chance to play.
But Murray might get the last laugh as his Nuggets are currently surging and may be on their way to their second NBA championship.
