LeBron James of the
Los Angeles Lakers has done so many things during more than two decades in the NBA, including winning four championships, four MVPs, Rookie of the Year, and so much more. And now he is very close to doing something else that is truly ground-breaking: being selected for his 20th All-NBA team.
The only season when James wasn't picked for All-NBA was his first year in the league. Since then, he has been honored with being a choice every single season.
The league recently changed the rules about All-NBA which is now positionless, giving James an even bigger chance of being selected. With a season average of 25.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game as the older player in the league, James has been wowing NBA fans and analysts all year long.
Additionally, James is reaching new heights when it comes to shooting, landing 53.2% from the field and a career-high 40.6% from beyond the three-point line.
There will be a lot of competition to make it on an All-NBA team this year, with players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic, and others playing some of the best basketball of their careers. Still, James is truly a dominant athlete and is doing sensational things, even at 39 years old.
At this point, the only thing that could get in LeBron's way is the new 65-game rule enacted by the NBA. The Lakers have 13 more games before the Play-In Tournament begins. James has participated in 60 of 69 games, which means he needs to perform in just five more to be eligible for end-of-season awards. He has remained healthy for most of the season so hitting that 65-game threshold seems very likely and, therefore, his 30th All-NBA appearance does too.
