The Los Angeles Lakers lost one of their superstars after the first quarter of one of their most crucial games of the season against the Golden State Warriors, Anthony Davis, LA's elite power forward had to leave the game due to a poked eye.
Bad news for the LA Lakers, losing one of their key players for a game of this importance, and at this point in the regular season could have significative impact in their expectations on making a run for that 6th seed, currently owned by the Sacramento Kings. That's the last spot that guarantees a direct trip for the upcoming playoffs.
Anthony Davis has been amazing this season for the Lakers. AD has remained healthy for most of the campaign, being pivotal under the basket, protecting the rim, providing much needed rebounds and of course scoring with high efficiency. In 63 games played this season, 'the Brow' is averaging 24.7 points, 12.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while shooting 55.2% from the field.
His value on the defensive side is huge, AD is one of the best defenders in the league, able to switch against smaller and quicker players and provide excellent cover. Near the basket, Davis can force attacking players to change their shot in the last second, his long arms are a constant threat of blocking any shot.
AD suffered a corneal abrasion in his left eye after he got poked by Trayce Jackson-Davis when the Warriors' player tried to block AD's shot.
Hopefully he can heal soon and be back with LeBron James and the rest of his teammates to try to make a final playoff push.
