The Los Angeles Lakers had a devastating loss to the Golden State Warriors, and they have now fell to the 10th seed in the Western Conference. LeBron James spoke about his team's performance in his postgame interview.
The King was first asked about the 20-minute delay due to the clock malfunction. He responded by saying it was an unfortunate situation but at the end of the day, the most important thing is to get the call right. He mentioned that everybody out on the court has a job, and it's the refs job to make the right call.
LeBron was then asked about the impact losing Anthony Davis had to this game. He stated that when you have a couple of days to prepare and then in the first 12 minutes a key component to your game plan goes down, it's hard to recover on the fly. AD does a lot on both ends of the court and it's hard to replicate what he brings on a nightly basis.
The future Hall of Famer reiterated that "we can't win without AD, we need that guy". He brings so much to the table offensively and defensively as he is a major threat whenever he plays. Losing the All-Star big man messes with the team balance as well as the rotations, and he pointed out how the success for the Warriors alter with the presence of Stephen Curry.
When discussing his co-star's injury, James said that Davis' eye was completely closed shut at halftime. However, as the leader of the Lakers, he knew that he had to step up and recuperate his troops to continue fighting in this game.
During the delay in the 4th quarter, the 20-time All-Star told his guys to just stay loose. He didn't know how long the wait would last but he knows the human body very well and knew that as athletes, once you're warm you need to maintain that, especially in a high-level game like this one tonight.
To close things out, the NBA's all-time leading scorer mentioned that the delay ruined the team's momentum. He was confused as to why his three pointer got reviewed because he stated he shoots on his tiptoes, so his heel would not have touched the out-of-bounds line on his corner triple. He did not get an explanation for the review and was even more flabbergasted that the shot clock reset for the Warriors when it shouldn't have, but that didn't get reviewed by the officials.
Overall, at the end of the day the Lakers still came up short in this game and have now fallen to the 10th seed out West. They still have a chance to move up in the standings but it starts with their next game on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks.
