Brooklyn Nets star Mikal Bridges is not only making waves on the basketball court but also pursuing his passion for education. Despite the glitz and glamour of the NBA, Bridges harbors a different dream - to become a second-grade teacher. In a recent interview with CBS News, the small forward revealed, "My other dream was being a second-grade teacher. I think just helping kids has always been a big thing of mine."
Bridges' affinity for second grade stems from his own fond memories of the year and a special teacher who left an indelible mark on him. "Because I loved second grade when I was young," Bridges explained, "I feel like that was one of the years I really remember. Just having a great year. I had a great teacher named Ms. Porter, and I feel like I always loved second grade." Growing up in Philadelphia, Ms. Porter inspired Bridges to pursue his dream of becoming an educator.
This month, Bridges took a step towards realizing his dream by spending a day as a teacher at PS 134 in Brooklyn. Stepping off the basketball court and into the classroom, Bridges shared his knowledge and experiences with young students, embodying his belief in the power of education and mentorship. As he continues to excel in his basketball career, Bridges remains committed to making a positive impact beyond the court, inspiring the next generation both on and off the hardwood.
