The
New York Knicks head coach,
Tom Thibodeau, confirmed this after saying in the press conference prior to the game that
OG Anunoby is doing "light work" on the court. The small forward also missed game 4 played in Indianapolis.
The player suffered a hamstring injury on game 3 of this Eastern Conference second round of the playoffs, and comes from missing the previous game against the Pacers, in which Indiana seized the opportunity of his absence to give a proper beating to the Newyorkers. In this context, the Knicks will go for the feat tonight, as they will try to win at home playing without 3 of their starters.
OG Anunoby came to New York from the Toronto Raptors and quickly earned a place on the roster. Through hard-nosed play, great defense and effective offense, Anunoby led the Knicks to new heights. Still, throughout his first few months as a member of the Knicks, the forward accumulated several injuries that forced him to miss many games.
The New York Knicks have had a bittersweet season. On the one hand, their performance as a team earned them nothing less than the 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. Quite an accomplishment for a franchise that has gone by without much fanfare since the beginning of the 21st century.
They overcame several adversities, mainly serious injuries to important members of the roster.
Julius Randle, an All-Star this season, suffered a severe shoulder injury at the end of January and although there was speculation of a possible return, the player was unable to return to action and had to undergo surgery to repair the damage.
Mitchell Robinson and Bojan Bogdanovic are also ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs, so luck has not really been on the side of New York's most popular team.
To have achieved so much success despite suffering numerous significant losses is an accomplishment in itself, but fans are not satisfied and remain hopeful of seeing their team in the conference finals again after 25 years.
