The young power forward
Aleksej Pokusevski was waived by the
Oklahoma City Thunder. Thunder's front office decided to absorb his $5 million salary for this season and cut the player, who will be a free agent once the season ends.
Pokusevski, 21, showed flashes of promise at various times during his first four NBA seasons. However, he failed to establish himself in a regular role with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Every time he seemed to have some positive momentum going on, he suffered an injury that relegated him to the bench, forcing him to start from scratch after each period of inactivity.
This pattern of injuries and continual restarts likely contributed to the Thunder's decision to let Pokusevski go. Despite his undeniable talent and versatility on the court, the lack of consistency product of the injuries made it difficult for him to establish himself as a key piece in the team's rotation.
The news of Pokusevski's resignation is sure to generate speculation as to what will be the next step in his NBA career. Although his time in Oklahoma City has come to an end, it is likely that other teams are interested in his skills and may offer him a new opportunity to prove himself in the league.
