Tuesday night and the San Antonio Spurs visited the Western Conference leaders, the Minnesota Timberwolves, at the Target Center. Two very different teams with different aspirations but with great talents to watch going at each other, like Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama. The last one featured a rare defensive action that we're bringing to watch in detail.
Easy game for the Wolves tonight, with much more talent and depth on their roster. San Antonio is trying to experiment and find different ways to use Wemby, almost playing without pressure, more focused on the upcoming NBA Draft.
In this particular play we can see Wemby with a unique block. I'm not sure how many times I've seen a defensive play like this. The size difference is absolutely insane between Victor and Morris. Monte is listed at 6-2, far far away from Wembanyama, listed at 7-4 ft. It's not all height for Wemby, he's showing how good he is with his footwork when guarding small perimeter players. Morris ends up conrnered and tries to take a shot but Wemby reachs in with his right hand, blocks it and takes the ball, in the same movement.
Victor Wembanyama surpassed everyone's expectations, playing elite defense this last stretch of games.
