This game featured one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference
and one of the most disappointing teams this season. However, it was
entertaining till the end as after a wild scramble,
Josh Hart hit the game-winning
and-1 layup to give the
New York Knicks a 113-111 victory over the Detroit
Pistons at Madison Square Garden.
It was a crazy ending to this game, as with 20 seconds left
Jalen Brunson missed a go ahead 3-pointer. The Knicks got the offensive rebound
but turned it over. Rather than holding the ball, Detroit pushed it up the
court where they lost it, and it eventually got into the hands of the All-Star
point guard for New York. He then kicked it to Hart, who hit the and-1 layup to
give his team the lead.
Jalen Brunson scored a game high 35 points while also
dishing out 12 assists. Josh Hart scored 23 points including the most important
bucket of the game while Donte DiVincenzo had 21 points and 5 made triples.
Bojan Bodganovic recorded 13 points off the bench.
For the Pistons,
Cade Cunningham led his team with 32 points
and 8 assists with 5 made three pointers. Jaden Ivey and former Knick Quentin
Grimes each scored 14 points while Jalen Duren finished with 11 points and 16
rebounds. Simone Fontecchio had 12 points in his 33 minutes of play.
This win improves the Knicks to 35-23, which makes them 4th
in the Eastern Conference and 2 games behind the 3-seeded Bucks. This win was
huge for New York as they continue to fight for a top 4 spot so they can host a
round 1 playoff matchup. They are 4-6 over their last 10 games and will look to
build off this momentum tomorrow when they face off against the New Orleans
Pelicans.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Pistons to 8-49, which is
last in the NBA. At this point, Detroit is just hoping to continue developing
their young core before adding more talent to their squad this offseason. Their next game will be tomorrow against
the Chicago Bulls.
