After returning for 2 games, All-Star Donovan Mitchell was absent for another matchup. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to secure a 108-103 win over the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge FieldHouse behind a dominant Jarrett Allen performance.
Spida Mitchell has had a frustrating month of March, as he has missed 8 of the teams 10 games so far. The 5-time All-Star missed 7 straight games due to a knee injury and now sat out this contest with a fractured nose. It is unknown how many more games the 27-year-old will miss but the Cavs need him if they want to make a deep playoff run.
In the leader’s absence, Jarrett Allen took on a bigger role as he carried his team with 23 points and 9 rebounds on 67% shooting. Caris LeVert had a big performance as well, finishing with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. Darius Garland and Georges Niang each scored 13 points while Marcus Morris Sr. made his Cavalier debut and had 14 points off the bench.
Pascal Siakam led his team with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Tyrese Haliburton had a rough shooting night, as he shot 4/14 from the field for 14 points. He contributed in other ways though as he had 6 boards and 12 assists. Myles Turner scored 12 points while T.J. McConnell ended with 14 points off the bench.
Cleveland improves to 43-25 with this win and now sit 1 game behind the Bucks for the 2nd seed in the East. This was a massive win for them because they have struggled without their superstar leader. The Cavs are 5-5 over their last 10 games and will look to gain some momentum from this victory on Wednesday against the Miami Heat.
Indiana drops to 38-31 with this loss and fall to the 7th seed out East. They sit 0.5 games behind the 76ers for the 6th seed, so losing this game hurts since every game is so meaningful. The Pacers are 5-5 over their last 10 games and will look to bounce back on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.
