Every week, the NBA Power Rankings come out to show which teams are the best on the regular season. This list is obviously a dinamic one, this meaning that it could also reflect teams that later on may fall down in the standings. The Boston Celtics have remained as the first seeded for a while now, proving that they are here to stay. Will they still be ranked number 1 after all the changes in the Eastern Conference landscape?
Indeed, the Celtics remain at the top of the standings. Boston remains atop the Eastern Conference with a 40-12 record, the first team this season to reach 40 wins after Friday's win over the Washington Wizards. They are first in net rating (by far), first in three-pointers made, and first in rebounds.
Denver Nuggets is the team that's the closest to Boston. Once 4th in the Power Rankings, they are now in second place thanks to their 11 wins in the last 15 games, although with the loss in their last game they have fallen to fourth place in a very tight Western Conference (but that will count for the next Power Rankings).
Oklahoma City Thunder is third in the ranking (previously 2nd). Their drop is simply because the Nuggets managed to take over the top spot in the West momentarily. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at MVP level and the signing of Gordon Hayward, this franchise is getting more and more serious.
Minnesota Timberwolves are in a relative fourth position, relative because after last night's games, once again they're leading the Western Conference. The fact is that they haven't had to play any game to do so. The franchise upgraded its backcourt with the addition of Monte Morris, who has demonstrated his ability to control the bench units.
Finally, the Los Angeles Clippers are fifth in the latest Power Rankings. In reality, there are arguments to be made for placing the four Western teams in any order. While they haven't made any trades, they don't really need them either. They have won eight of their last 10 games and are one of the NBA's biggest threats.
