As they have so many other times this season, the
San Antonio Spurs were taken down by the
Orlando Magic on Thursday night. But just because the Spurs lost doesn't mean that their wildly popular rookie
Victor Wembanyama didn't impress the crowd.
In one particular moment, Wembanyama got some serious revenge on Magic star
Franz Wagner. Early in the fourth quarter, Wagner dunked over Wembanyama, which is no small feat considering the San Antonio rookie's size.
But just moments later, Wembanyama leaped high with a smooth one-handed finish over Wagner.
It was an incredible play from Wembanyama during a rather rough night for the young player. He finished the night with only 15 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, and two three-pointers. He also had 5 turnovers too.
That marked his lowest-scoring game since December 26.
The Spurs haven't been good all season long but Wembanyama has been a remarkable rookie to watch, earning an average of 20.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Additionally, he also leads the league with blocks, scoring 3.1 per game.
Wembanyama could truly be the sort of generational talent that fans had hoped for but the team around him isn't strong enough to compete, at least not yet. Some analysts are curious to see what the front office does this summer in order to get a better roster surrounding the French star as he blossoms into one of the biggest names in the NBA.
