The Boston Celtics came into this game just 3 wins away from clinching the #1 seed in the East. They got one step closer to that accomplishment tonight as they defeated the Detroit Pistons 129-102 at Little Caesars Arena behind Jaylen Brown’s big performance.
The Celtics have been nearly unstoppable this season and they are one of the best teams in the NBA. They are elite on both sides of the ball and their success is proven as they have almost clinched home court advantage for the entire playoffs. This could end up being huge for them because if a series ever goes to a Game 7, it will be at the TD Garden.
Superstar Jayson Tatum did not play in this game so Jaylen Brown stepped up his performance as he finished with 33 points and 4 steals on 13/19 shooting. Derrick White nearly had a triple-double with his 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. Kristaps Porzingis had 19 points with 3 steals and 2 blocks while Payton Pritchard scored 20 points with 9 assists and 4 made triples.
Jalen Duren was a late scratch in this game so James Wiseman got the start in his absence, and he scored a team-high 24 points with 9 rebounds on 11/13 shooting. Cade Cunningham struggled from the field, as he shot 6/17 and ended with just 15 points. Jaden Ivey scored 16 points on 54% shooting.
Boston improves to 56-14 with this win and now hold an 11-game lead over the 2nd seeded Bucks. They are dominating the regular season and once they clinch home court advantage for the entire playoffs, the stars may begin to rest some games to prevent injury heading into the postseason. This is now 8 straight wins and they’ll look to keep it up tomorrow against the Chicago Bulls.
Detroit drops to 12-58 with this loss and fall back down to the 15th seed in the East. The Pistons are in the mix to earn another top pick in the lottery so they are hoping that this year they can land at #1 overall. This now marks 5 losses in a row and their next matchup will be on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
