The dynamic duo for the Boston Celtics took over in this game, as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 53 points in their victory over the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center.
The Celtics have been the most dominant team this season but they showed that they’re still vulnerable, as last week they couldn’t close their games out against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns (even though they win in overtime). Despite these flaws, Boston still looks like the favorites to come out of the East.
They are led by their 2 All-Stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. JB led the team with 27 points while JT scored 26 points. Sam Hauser provided 22 points and 6 threes off the bench. Al Horford and Derrick White both finished with 11 points and 3 blocks each while Payton Pritchard started for Jrue Holiday and recorded 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Deandre Ayton led the Blazers with 22 points and 15 boards. Anfernee Simons scored 17 points while Scoot Henderson finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Jerami Grant returned from a. 2-game absence and had 14 points.
Boston improves to 50-14 with this win, becoming the first team this season to reach 50 wins. They have a wide gap above the rest of the league in terms of wins so the playoffs looks like it’ll go through TD Garden. The Celtics are 8-2 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Utah Jazz tomorrow.
Portland falls to 18-46 with this loss and would earn the 5th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft if the season ended today. The Blazers are continuing to develop their rookie Scoot Henderson and deciding who from their current roster will be apart of their future. They are 3-7 over their last 10 games and will play against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
