Brooklyn Nets fired
Jacque Vaughn last Februry. Since then, Kevin Ollie has been running the team as an intern head coach, while the Nets front office reviewed the alternatives to replace Vaughn. The list has been narrowed to only three candidates:
Mike Budenholzer,
Jordi Fernandez and
Kevin Young.
The Nets are closing yet another decepointing season. The team has counts with some very good pieces like Mikal Bridges, Cam Thomas or Dennis Schroder, however, they've struggled the entire season, finishing out of playoff contention and far from the lottery standings. Let's take a look at the final candidates to take over the squad.
Mike Budenholzer
Budenholzer was fired after a decepointing playoffs run with the Milwaukee Bucks. It was seen as a bit unfair, due to the amount of injuries that the team had to overcome when facing the Heat. Now, with him being available, Brooklyn will try to land Budenholzer in New York. Mike is a very good offensive head coach who already has proven he can win it all in the NBA. All the roads in Brooklyn leads to the two-times NBA Coach of the year.
Jordi Fernandez
The spanish head coach is the second candidate to sit on Brooklyn's bench. In 2023 he coached team Canada in the FIBA World Cup, finishing third with that group. Fernandez is working as a Sacramento Kings associate coach, alongside head coach Mike Brown. He also worked with the reigning champions Denver Nuggets as part of the coaching staff.
Kevin Young
Young is a very experienced assistant coach around the NBA. He's currently working under Frank Vogel with the Phoenix Suns. He was part of Brett Brown's coaching team in Philadelphia. In 2023 he became the highest-paid assistant coach after signing a five-year, $10 million contract extension with the Suns.
Joe Tsai, the owner of the Nets, is conducting personal meetings with all three coaches to determine the most feasible one for the job.
