Shaq and Kenny both see SGA as the MVP, and Kenny goes further to say that SGA has had a bigger impact than Jokic Kenny: “Denver has had great success, but the individual success in the team’s greatness has been higher in SGA”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has undoubtedly had a wonderful NBA season and has entered into the conversation of the best basketball players alive.
But is he an MVP? Is he more important than players like Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic, and Nikola Jokic?
Kenny Smith thinks so. On the latest episode of NBA on TNT, the former player stated that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is more important to his team than Jokic.
“Denver has had great success, but the individual success in the team’s greatness has been higher in SGA," Smith said.
Both Smith and Shaquille O'Neal agreed that Gilgeous-Alexander should be this season's MVP, which is a stunning endorsement of just how great he has been all year long.
For 2023-24, Gilgeous-Alexander has averaged 30.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.2 points, shooting 53.6% from the field. While there may be other players who have earned better numbers, Gilgeous-Alexander has helped his team climb higher than ever and they are now poised to enter the postseason in their best position in years.
For years now, Gilgeous-Alexander has been spoken of as an up-and-coming star who was going to do great things. The time has finally come for the 25-year-old player and that is why analysts like Smith and O'Neal think so much of him.
