These 2 teams are fighting for the last spot in the play-in
tournament, and tonight the
Brooklyn Nets came out on top 124-97 at Barclays
Center thanks to
Cam Johnson’s hot hand.
Johnson came to the Nets via the Kevin Durant trade, and so
far he hasn’t found his groove in this stint with Brooklyn. The sharpshooter
has seen his minutes drop and after averaging over 45% from three last season
with Phoenix, he’s sitting at 38% with his new team.
The 27-year-old found his touch tonight though, as he
splashed in 7/11 triples to finish with 29 points. Dennis Schroder also thrived,
finishing with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists while hitting 5 three
pointers.
Mikal Bridges recorded 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists while Lonnie
Walker scored 11 points off the bench.
For the Hawks,
Dejounte Murray had a team high 28 points to
go along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Jalen Johnson scored 14 points while
Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 11 points. De’Andre Hunter and rookie Kobe
Bufkin each ended with 12 points off the bench.
Brooklyn improves to 23-36 with this victory and closes the
gap to 3 games between them and the 10th seeded Hawks. Despite this
win, the Nets have been cold as of late, going 3-7over their last 10 games.
They will look to build some momentum on Saturday when they face off against Atlanta
once again.
The Hawks drop to 26-33 with this loss, staying at the 10th
spot in the East and sitting 2 games behind the Chicago Bulls for the 9th
seed. This team has struggled this season and things haven’t been easier with
their All-Star point guard Trae Young being injured, but they are still
fighting to compete in the play-in tournament. They are 4-6 over their last 10
games and will look to get revenge against this same team on Saturday.
