So far this season,
Jonathan Kuminga has averaged 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists for the
Golden State Warriors. Those are some of the best numbers of his career and it's clear that Kuminga is playing really good basketball. However, there are still
rumors of him being traded soon.
Kuminga is allegedly unhappy with his role on the team and doesn't agree with how he's being used by head coach Steve Kerr. Since the Warriors are in hot pursuit of some big changes before the NBA trade deadline, Kuminga could be one of the players leaving the Bay Area.
There are multiple teams who could use the youthful talent of Kuminga, notably the
Portland Trail Blazers,
Utah Jazz,
Atlanta Hawks,
Detroit Pistons, and
San Antonio Spurs.
With the Blazers, Kuminga could instantly become a starter. And Portland could send down Matisse Thybulle, who could help the Warriors with their lack of defensive strategies.
The Jazz, a team that is on the verge of some major changes, could greatly improve their backcourt if they trade for Kuminga. With a plethora of young talent and a ton of draft picks, they could give the Warriors a lot of potential in a trade, but would it help Golden State win right away?
The Hawks and Pistons could offer the Warriors a few important things in return for Kuminga. The Hawks could take on Kuminga and Chris Paul while offering De'Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Those two players would assist with the offense and defense for Golden State. The Pistons, on the other hand, could send a Bogdanovic of their own: Bojan, as well as some draft picks. Bogdanovic would be a great asset and shooter alongside Steph Curry.
Finally, the Spurs. San Antonio would offer younger talent in exchange for Kuminga. Players like Zach Collins and Cedi Osman could be making their way to Golden State, which perhaps wouldn't tip the scales in the Warriors' favor, at least not for this season.
If the Warriors do decide to trade Kuminga, they will have to determine if if they want youthful potential or win-now talent in his place.
