The
Dallas Mavericks picked up a big 109-99 win against the
Golden State Warriors at American Airlines Center, but they lost their superstar
Luka Doncic in the process.
The 5-time All-Star played 30 minutes in this contest but left in the final 7 minutes of the game due to hamstring soreness and he did not return. It’s unknown how serious this injury is and whether it will cost the 25-year-old some time, but the Mavs are hoping it’s something minor because they know that Doncic is their leader who controls this team’s success.
Before leaving the game, Luka Magic recorded 21 points and 9 assists.
Kyrie Irving led the team with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists while PJ Washington had 11 points and 7 boards. Daniel Gafford continued his perfect shooting streak, going 5/5 for 10 points along with 7 blocks in this one. He is only 2 made field goals away from tying Wilt Chamberlain for the most consecutive made field goals in NBA history.
The Warriors were without
Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, so
Jonathan Kuminga stepped up and finished with a team-high 27 points. Andrew Wiggins finished with 17 points with 5 boards. It was a quiet night for the future Hall of Famers Chris Paul and Klay Thompson, as they ended with 9 points and 8 points, respectively.
Dallas improves to 38-28 with this win and now sit just 0.5 games away from jumping up to the 6th seed. It is such a tight race in the Western Conference that every win is huge for seeding purposes. The Mavs are on a 4-game winning streak and will look to continue this momentum tomorrow against the Oklahoma City Thunder, although the status for Luka Doncic will still be up in the air.
Golden State falls to 34-31 with this loss and now sits 1.5 games behind the Lakers for the 9th seed in the West. It’s been a struggle for the Warriors as of late, as they have lost 3 of their last 4 games. Their next matchup will be on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers and Stephen Curry is eyeing to return in that game, which will be huge for the Dubs.
