In this rematch of the 2023 Western Conference Finals, history is repeating itself as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 114-103 at Ball Arena behind an MVP performance by Nikola Jokic.
The Joker led the way for Denver with 32 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals while shooting 65% from the field. The 2-time MVP was able to dominate once again and get whatever he wanted on the court. Jamal Murray also had a fantastic game as he finished with 22 points, 6 boards, and 10 assists with 4 three-pointers.
Michael Porter Jr. recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks while Aaron Gordon contributed 12 points, 11 boards, and 7 assists. To round out the starting unit, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 12 points, 3 steals, and 4 triples against his former team.
Anthony Davis scored a team-high 32 points with 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks for the Lakers. LeBron James had 27 points, 6 boards, and 8 assists on 10/16 shooting while Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell each scored 13 points. Taurean Prince provided 11 bench points.
Denver goes up 1-0 in this first round series and continues to prove why they’re the favorite to come out of the West. After trailing to end the first quarter, they easily turned things around to eventually win the game. The Nuggets have championship DNA and will look to repeat what they accomplished last season.
Los Angeles drops this first game on the road and now faces an uphill battle. They are seeking revenge after getting swept last postseason but unfortunately tonight was more of the same. The Lakers will watch the tape and look to make changes before their next game on Monday to tie things up at 1 game apiece.
