The
Boston Celtics were without their star players in Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday, so
Derrick White accepted the challenge of leading the team, and that’s exactly what he did in this 119-94 blowout victory over the
Detroit Pistons at TD Garden.
The Celtics are looked at as one of the most complete teams in the NBA. They are elite on both sides of the ball and their record shows it, as they are clearly the top team in the league. Boston looks like they’ll make a run for the championship this postseason and time will tell whether or not Jayson Tatum and
Jaylen Brown will win their first ring.
Derrick White was the star of the night as he finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists with 6 made three pointers. Jaylen Brown scored a game-high 31 points with 7 boards while Kristaps Porzingis had 20 points and 8 rebounds with 5 made triples of his own. Payton Pritchard also knocked down 5 threes and ended with 23 points.
The Pistons were without Cade Cunningham so
Jaden Ivey led his team with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. James Wiseman had 12 points and 2 blocks off the bench while
Jalen Duren ended with just 8 points and 9 boards.
Boston improves to 54-14 with this win and continue to widen the gap between them and the rest of the conference. The Celtics have been rolling as of late, winning 6 in a row and going 8-2 in their last 10 games. Their next matchup will be against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday in a tough Eastern Conference showdown.
Detroit drops to 12-56 with this loss and now hold the second best odds to land the #1 overall pick. The Pistons are continuing to work on developing their young talent and will add more prospects this off-season. They have lost 3 games in a row and are now 3-7 over their last 10 games. Their next matchup will be on Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers.
