The Detroit Pistons have been one of the most discussed teams throughout the entire 2023-24 season, but for the wrong reasons. The Pistons have had one of the worst seasons in franchise history and now, with 14 games left to play, they won't be able to count with Isaiah Stewart and Ausar Thompson.
Today the franchise published an official communication of the medical staff confirming these bad news. The Pistons, who've been the worst team for almost the entire season, finally managed to win some games that led them to surpass the Washington Wizards, escaping from the being the last team of all the NBA.
With an infamous stretch of games lost (28), trading some important players to continue the longest re-build period of all franchises, adding some off court incidents like the fight between Stewart and Eubanks in Phoenix, Detroit now finds itself with Isaiah Stewart and Ausar Thompson sidelined for the rest of the season.
Isaiah Stewart, Detroit's starting center, was averaging 10.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals, shooting 48.7% from the field, and 38.3% from three-point territory.
Ausar Thompson was the 5th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. On his first NBA season, the small forward averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Shooting 48.3% from the field.
As reported, Stewart suffered a right hamstring strain on Monday's match against Boston, that will have him out until next season.
Ausar Thompson on the other hand, will miss the remainder of the season while being treated for a blood clot. He has been cleared to resume conditioning and will begin non-contact basketball activities when the regular season concludes. He's expected to be back fully healthy next season.
