Detroit Pistons starting to figure it out: Defeat Charlotte Hornets behind Cade Cunningham’s big night

This game featured 2 of the younger teams in the NBA, and it was the Detroit Pistons who came out on top 114-97 against the Charlotte Hornets at Little Caesar’s Arena behind Cade Cunningham’s big performance.

Both of these teams are currently rebuilding and are hoping to add another top 5 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to help them improve for next season. Charlotte is led by All-Star LaMelo Ball, and the core pieces around him include Brandon Miller, Mark Williams, and Miles Bridges. Cade Cunningham is the leader for Detroit, and his young core include Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, and Ausar Thompson.

The first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Duren ended with 20 points and 10 boards while Simone Fontecchio recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds while hitting 3 triples. Jaden Ivey and Isaiah Stewart each scored 12 points while James Wiseman had 10 points and 9 boards off the bench.

Miles Bridges led his team in scoring with 24 points. Grant Williams finished with 22 points while Brandon Miller had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Nick Richards recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds while Vasilije Micic contributed 11 points, 5 boards, and 7 dimes.

The Pistons improve to 11-53 with this win. After losing 28 games in a row earlier this season, they are slowly figuring things out as they are 3-7 over their last 10 games. Their next matchup will be on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors.

Meanwhile, the Hornets drop to 16-49 with this loss. They have struggled for majority of this season and tonight was another example of that. Charlotte is 2-8 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
