The
Detroit Pistons have been one of the worst teams in NBA history, as they lost a record 28 games in a row earlier this year. However, they were able to pick up a 105-95 victory over the
Chicago Bulls at the United Center thanks to a heroic performance by
Cade Cunningham.
Pistons head coach Monty Williams was furious following the previous game against the New York Knicks, where rookie Ausar Thompson got fouled by Donte DiVincenzo but there was no call. After hearing the 2-minute report, it was confirmed that the refs missed the foul call but it didn’t matter because the outcome of the game did not change.
However, Detroit proved that they can hang in there against good teams and tonight, they actually picked up a win. Cade Cunningham led the way with 26 points on 69% shooting. Jalen Duren had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks while Jaden Ivey scored 15 points. Simone Fontecchio ended with 17 points off the bench.
For the Bulls,
Nikola Vucevic finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
DeMar Derozan also ended with 25 points while Andre Drummond had 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Coby White struggled in this game, scoring just 10 points in 14% shooting.
This win improves the Pistons to 9-49 on the season, and they are now tied with the Wizards for the worst record in the league. After a rough start to the season, Detroit’s young core is slowly developing and gaining experience through each game played. They are now 3-7 over their last 10 games and will look to start a winning streak when they face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Bulls to 27-31, which makes them the 9th seed in the East and 1 game above the 10th seeded Hawks. This loss is embarrassing for Chicago, as they couldn’t get the job done against one of the worst teams in the NBA. They are 5-5 over their last 10 games and will look to bounce back tomorrow against the Cavs.
