Donovan Mitchell had another outstanding performance, as he led
the
Cleveland Cavaliers to a 117-101 victory over
Victor Wembanyama and the San
Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the hottest teams
in the NBA and they kept it rolling tonight. After a disappointing round 1 exit
last in last seasons playoffs, they are looking dominant this year and have all
the pieces to make a deep playoff push. With an All-Star caliber point guard in
Darius Garland, a defensive frontcourt in Evan Mobley and
Jarrett Allen, and a solidified
superstar in Donovan Mitchell, the Cavs can compete with any team in the NBA
when things are clicking.
Tonight was one of those nights, as the 5-time All-Star
scored 31 points to go along with his 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Mitchell got into a scuffle with Zach Collins in the last minute of the game and got ejected. Jarrett Allen
had a huge 26-point, 16 rebound double-double while third year power forward
Evan Mobley recorded 28 points and 10 rebounds.
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama led the way with 19 points,
14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Devin Vassell scored 26 points
with 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and Keldon Johnson poured in 17 points off the
bench.
This win improves the Cavs to 31-16, which makes them 3rd in
the Eastern Conference and 1 game behind the 2nd seeded Milwaukee
Bucks. Cleveland is 9-1 over their last 10 games and currently on a 5-game
winning streak. Their next game will be on Monday night against the Sacramento
Kings.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Spurs to10-40, which makes
them 15th in the Western Conference. San Antonio is 3-7 over their last 10
games and currently on a 4-game losing streak. Their next game will be on Wednesday
night against the Miami Heat.
