With a statement that is sure to turn heads and generate a lot of conversation, Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors recently said, "Kyrie Irving is the scorer that everyone thinks of Kevin Durant."
On the surface, that might sound like an insult. Given the history between Green and Durant, an insult wouldn't be that surprising. But Green explained that he was trying to compliment Irving in the best way possible.
He said that Durant is a big basketball player who can score from all over the court. However, he can be pressed and minimized by the right defensive plan. However, that isn't as possible with Irving, who is nearly impossible to slow down and stop.
That was evident on Sunday afternoon, as Irving put up the game-winning buzzer-beater against the Denver Nuggets, a swift and deft bucket with his left hand that had the entire NBA world talking.
In any other hands by any other player, a bucket like that wouldn't have been possible. But Irving is able to use his skills and his size as keys to pushing past just about any defense.
Irving is looking as good as ever during this current run with the Dallas Mavericks. Alongside Luka Doncic, Irving is part of one of the most exciting backcourts in the league. For years, Irving has been referred to as one of the best closers in the league and he proved it again on Sunday.
Being compared to Durant is always a compliment and Irving is surely happy about that. However, the way that Green phrased this compliment might earn some negative attention, although he is used to it at this point in his career.
