It was a competitive game in Salt Lake City, and things got chippy toward the end of regulation. Ultimately, the Chicago Bulls were able to come out on top 119-117 against the Utah Jazz at Delta Center.
With under 10 seconds left, the Jazz were down 117-116 and elected to intentionally foul DeMar Derozan on an inbounds play. Tensions then got high, as a scuffle broke out between John Collins and Bulls assistant coach Chris Fleming. Both parties were shoving each other and hands were even aimed towards each others necks.
Some players stepped in to defend their teammate/coach while others tried to play peacemaker, but it eventually turned into a huge crowd of people. Whistles were blowing and the crowd was booing. It was not the way these players, fans, coaches, and even the league expected the game to end.
The aftermath of this altercation resulted in Torrey Craig, John Collins, and Chris Fleming all receiving technical fouls. Jordan Clarkson shot a technical free throw to tie the game at 117. DeMar Derozan then shot 2 free throws (because he was intentionally fouled) and he drilled both of it to give Chicago a 119-117 lead with 9 seconds remaining.
Utah had 2 chances to tie or win the game. Jordan Clarkson missed a 3 point attempt with 8 seconds remaining but Coby White stepped out of bounds, giving the Jazz one final attempt. This time, Collin Sexton missed a pullup triple and time expired.
It will be seen if any suspensions are drawn from this scuffle, as unnecessary violent acts were made by both teams. In all likelihood, the players and coaches involved will get fined and have to move past this unfortunate situation.
