The
Cleveland Cavaliers were down by 22 points with just 9 minutes remaining and it looked like they were going to throw in the towel. However,
Dean Wade had an unbelievable 4th quarter, as he scored 20 points and led his team to a 105-104 comeback victory over the
Boston Celtics at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Coming into tonight, the Celtics haven't lost a game in over a month and that streaked look like it was going to continue since Donovan Mitchell was out and Evan Mobley got injured. Instead, Dean Wade took over and had himself a night, hitting clutch shots and provided a spark to his teammates and the crowd. He hit 5 threes in the final period to fuel the comeback and with each shot he made, it gave the Cavs more momentum.
The 27-year-old was the hometown hero in tonight's game, finishing with a total of 23 points off the bench while draining 6 three pointers.
Jarrett Allen recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds while Darius Garland had 16 points and 11 assists. Isaac Okoro scored 16 points and it was a tough game for Evan Mobley, who ended with just 4 points but left the game on crutches due to an ankle injury.
Jayson Tatum led his team with 26 points and 13 rebounds with 5 made triples.
Kristaps Porzingis had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks while Jaylen Brown scored 21 points. Jrue Holiday recorded 12 points and 5 assists while it was an interesting game for Derrick White, who scored only 3 points but had 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 blocks.
This was a massive win for the Cavs to essentially save their season and remain in the hunt for the 2-seed. They improve to 40-21 and now sit just 0.5 games behind the Bucks and 4.5 games above the Magic. Cleveland is proving to be a true threat in the East and with tonight's victory, that just gives them more confidence heading into the playoffs. Their main focus will be to continue picking up wins and hoping to get all their players healthy. This team is 5-5 over their last 10 games and will look to get another win tomorrow against the Atlanta Hawks.
Meanwhile, this was a devastating collapse for the Celtics, who fall to 48-13 on the year. Despite this loss, Boston still sits head and shoulders above everyone else in the East, although it does show that at times they still can be vulnerable. They are 9-1 over their last 10 games and will look to patch things up in the last month of the season. Their next bounce back opportunity will be on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets in a potential NBA Finals matchup.
