This game featured two Western Conference teams on opposite sides of the playoff picture. The struggling Golden State Warriors fell short to Anthony Edwards the thriving Minnesota Timberwolves 114-110 at Target Center and are now at risk of missing the play-in tournament completely.
Stephen Curry scored a game-high 31 points while hitting 5 triples. Klay Thompson had 16 points off the bench while Andrew Wiggins finished with 15 points. Draymond Green ended with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. He’s been stepping his game up with the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns. Naz Reid started and recorded 20 points, 12 boards, and 2 blocks with 6 made three-pointers. Rudy Gobert had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Golden State drops to 36-34 with this loss and now hold just a 1 game lead above the Rockets for the 10th seed in the West. Houston has been on fire recently, winning 8 games in a row. Meanwhile, the Warriors have been mediocre, going 4-6 over their last 10 games.
It would be a disappointment if they miss the play-in tournament completely after winning the championship 2 years ago and bringing in reinforcements to compete once again. This could be the end of Golden State’s dynasty if they miss the playoffs this season.
The Timberwolves improve to 49-22 with this win and keep their hopes of grasping the #1 seed in the West. They sit just 1 game behind the Denver Nuggets at the top spot so there is still a chance for the playoffs to go through Minnesota despite them losing KAT for a huge chunk of time. They are 7-3 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
