The upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend will have a special twist this year, as two basketball stars,
Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, will face off in a three-point shooting contest that is sure to turn heads.
Golden State Warriors player Curry, known for his exceptional three-point shooting ability, has secured the NBA three-point contest title twice, in 2015 and 2021. On the other hand, Ionescu, of the New York Liberty, made her mark in history by setting an impressive record with 37 points in the finals of the WNBA three-point event last year.
Although the specific rules of the contest have yet to be released, including the exact location of the three-point line for each player, anticipation is growing as the date of the showdown approaches. During an impromptu segment with Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski, Curry hinted at the possibility of the showdown, capturing the attention of viewers.
The idea of a three-point showdown between Curry and Ionescu didn't come out of nowhere. After Ionescu's impressive performance in the WNBA contest, the Liberty star launched a provocative tweet to Curry about the possibility of a showdown. Curry, responding to the provocation, confirmed his interest in participating in this unique duel.
"Basket shot? 😂 @StephenCurry30," tweeted Ionescu on July 15, 2023.
WNBA stars have participated in NBA All-Star Weekend in the past, but this three-point contest showdown will give Ionescu a unique opportunity to highlight and promote women's basketball at one of the NBA's most prominent events.
NBA All-Star Weekend will take place Feb. 16-18 in Indianapolis. In addition to the Curry-Ionescu showdown, another notable change will be the return to the East-West format in the game;
