This information represented a win for Ja Morant regarding an incident that took place back in 2022 in Morant's home, when Ja punched a teenager. A Tennessee judge ruled that the NBA player acted in self-defensa.
Ja Morant's career has two sides, on a basketball court the Grizzlies point guard's talent is incredible. Morant is almost on every highlight. His game is explosive, the flashy assists, the moves, and the high-flying dunks makes him one of the most fun players to watch. He can be the face of the league, that's for sure.
The other side is how he's handled himself outside the court since he got to the NBA. Ja has had several erratic behaviours including his famous videos brandishing a gun. The league suspended him after a first warning for 25 games starting this current season.
However, in this particular case and according to the judge, Morant's actions were 'correct'. Ja testified that he "swung first" at Joshua Holloway, then 17, to protect himself during an altercation. This led Holloway to file a lawsuit accusing Ja of assault.
It seems that everything happened on a pickup basketball game. Holloway was alledgely frustrated from losing several games and threw the ball towards Ja's face. This is the moment went Morant punched the 17-year-old. Holloway and his legal team must prove that Morant didn't act in self-defense.
Memphis' All-Star came back after the suspension and was able to play nine games before he injured his shoulder in January, which led him being sidelined for the remainder of the season. The Grizzlies suffered several injuries among its roster and they are hoping to have all their pieces healthy and 100% ready for next season.
During the span of games that Ja was on court this season, he averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds.
