American sports columnist and
commentator Skip Bayless believes that playing for a long period of time does
not automatically qualify an athlete to be classified as the best player.
The 72-year-old made those
comments regarding the
Los Angeles Lakers star forward
LeBron James who is
currently playing in his 21st season and recently became the first
player ever in the history of the NBA to register more than 40,000 points.
"Before 40,000 points I had
LeBron ninth on my all-time list. After 40,000 points, I still have LeBron
ninth on my all-time list,” he said. “Because playing longer does not make you
better or more valuable. I'm sorry, LeBron James is not better than
Larry Bird,
who I have at eight, one notch ahead of him."
James is having a fabulous season
for the Lakers where he is contributing 25.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and eight
assists per game. In the team’s most recent outing, the 39-year-old registered
31 points against the Sacramento Kings on March 06 at the crypto.com Arena in
Los Angeles.
The best outing for the Ohio-born
this season came in the match against the Oklahoma City Thunder back in
December where he registered 40 points to go with seven rebounds and seven
assists.
