Los Angeles Clippers point guard and former MVP winner, Russell Westbrook, suffered a fracture on his left hand during the match against the Washington Wizards, last Friday night. With the playoffs ahead, the Clippers need him at 100%.
Russell Westbrook was an example of availability for this LA Clippers squad, having played all previous games of the entire 2023-24 seasons. Following Friday's injury, the team will be missing the things Russ' brings to the table: pace, playmaking, rim pressure and on-ball defense.
In fact, Westbrook's ability to rebound provided much help on the boards when he came into the game. In addition, as the reliable point guard he is, he was in charge of the second unit's offense.
Russell is playing his 16th season, as a 35 year-old he was having very impactful averages: 11.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 22.8 minutes per game.
According to sources, his bone fracture will cost him several weeks, expecting to lose perhaps the entire month. This meaning that the veteran player could be returning in April, at the verge of the upcoming playoffs.
Clipper's coach Tyronn Lue was visibly sad when he referred to missing someone like Westbrook, while praising what Russell Westbrook means for the team:
"He’s going to stay engaged regardless. That’s just who he is. And so we need him around, we need his energy, we need his talking the way he leads and so until he is able to get back, we’re going to miss him. Hopefully it’s a speedy recovery and we get him back sooner than later."
