The NBA world was very excited on Tuesday night because they were able to witness the return of
Joel Embiid. The
Philadelphia 76ers superstar had been out since January due to a serious knee injury. During his absence, the Sixers have struggled to stay in playoff contention. They were happy to have him back.
And one of Embiid's teammates, Kelly Oubre Jr., said he was actually frightened for the the
Oklahoma City Thunder, Tuesday's opponent.
"My heart dropped because I was scared for the other team," Oubre said about Embiid coming back.
He then went on about what Embiid will need to do in order to play like the reigning MVP he is.
"He got to find his rhythm. He's been out for a while and it's just amazing to have him back. I think the whole NBA community missed him and we definitely missed him over here in his organization," Oubre added.
Embiid was making up for lost time in the game, scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and three steals during his return. He was especially important in the final moments of the game, stealing the ball from the Thunder with just 28 seconds left. He also sank free throws at the close of the game to give Philadelphia a three-point lead.
As great as Embiid was, it was Oubre who was actually the best player for Philadelphia , scoring 25 points, while Tobias Harris posted 18.
The 76ers are currently the eighth team in the Eastern Conference, which means they are currently qualified for the Play-In Tournament this month. With the help of Embiid, they may be able to climb higher, but they will have to keep scoring wins right away.
