The city of Indiana hosted the All-Star weekend and tonight
the fans had more to cheer about, as their hometown Pacers defeated the Detroit
Pistons 129-115 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse behind a masterclass performance by
superstar
Tyrese Haliburton.
It was an eventful weekend for the
Indiana Pacers, as they had
lots of players participating in the All-Star weekend events. Sophomore
Bennedict Mathurin won Rising Stars MVP on Friday night and on Saturday night,
the trio of Ben, Tyrese Haliburton, and
Myles Turner won the Skills Challenge.
Hali continued on with the festivities, fighting hard in the 3-point shooting
contest before putting on a show in the main event.
Tonight was much of the same, as the 23-year-old point guard
finished with 25 points and 13 assists with 4 made threes.
Pascal Siakam scored
20 points while Mathurin ended with 15 points. Myles Turner had 13 points and
11 rebounds while TJ McConnell recorded 16 points off the bench.
For the Pistons, emerging star
Cade Cunningham had a great
game, finishing with 30 points and 8 assists with 4 made triples. Jalen Duren
had 15 points and 13 rebounds while Jaden Ivey scored 14 points. Rookie Ausar
Thompson had an all-around game, finishing with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5
assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks on 50% shooting.
This win improves the Pacers to 32-25, which makes them 6th
in the Eastern Conference. Indiana is now 1 game behind the 5th seeded 76ers
and 1 game above the 7th seeded Miami Heat. They are 5-5 over their last 10
games and currently on a 2-game winning streak. Their next game will be on Sunday
evening against the Dallas Mavericks.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Pistons to 8-47 on the
season. Detroit is now 3-7 over their last 10 games and currently on a 4-game losing
streak. Their next game will be on Saturday night against the Orlando Magic.
