Stephen A. Smith calls out Zion "It’s not about his game. It's about how many burgers he's eating. Whether he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald's... That's what he has to prove, that the chefs don't love him any longer" (@PelsFilmRoom)
Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans has remained relatively healthy all season long and has averaged 22.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. But there are still concerns about him, his health, and his physical conditioning.
On Friday morning, Stephen A. Smith called out Williamson and said that his biggest challenge isn't being good on the court, it's him not eating too much.
Smith said:
"It’s not about his game. It's about how many burgers he's eating. Whether he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald's... That's what he has to prove, that the chefs don't love him any longer."
Williamson has been criticized multiple times throughout his career for the way that he handles himself and his diet during the offseason. There has been footage and photos of the Pelicans star looking overweight and out of shape, leading some to claim that he isn't taking his job seriously and not doing what it takes to give his all to the team.
There have been a lot of concerns revolving around Williamson's health before this season started, mostly because he only played in 29 games last season and missed all of 2021-22 before that. However, Williamson has participated in 45 games so far this season and looks much healthier and in shape than he has in years.
The Pelicans are currently the fifth-best team in the West and there are rumors that the front office might be forced to make a tough decision this summer and either part ways with Williamson or his teammate Brandon Ingram. Each have hefty contracts and New Orleans might not be able to pay both.
When the Pelicans eventually make this choice, will they consider Williamson's previous problems with gaining weight and staying healthy?
