The Cleveland Cavaliers came into this contest on a 2-game losing streak, but they were able to bounce back behind a dominant Jarrett Allen performance. In this matchup, he was unstoppable and led his team to a 114-105 victory over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena.
Superstar Donovan Mitchell missed the last 2 games for the Cavs, and this could be the reason for the team’s recent losing skid. After being on fire heading into All-Star weekend, Cleveland fell off coming out of the break.
Spida returned for this game and scored 16 points, but the star of the show was Jarrett Allen, as he finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds on 61% shooting. Evan Mobley had a big game too, ending with 21 points and 5 blocks while Darius Garland recorded 17 points and 7 assists. Caris LeVert came off the bench and nearly had a triple double, contributing 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.
For the Wizards, this was the second game in a row that Jordan Poole came off the bench. He exploded in this contest, scoring 31 points with 6 made threes. Kyle Kuzma had 27 points while Landry Shamet finished with 15 points. Midseason acquisition Richaun Holmes recorded 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
This win improves the Cavs to 37-19, which makes them 2nd in the Eastern Conference and just 1 game above the 3rd seeded Bucks. Cleveland is 7-3 over their last 10 games and will look to build off this win on Tuesday when they face off against the Dallas Mavericks.
On the other hand, this loss drops the Wizards to 9-48, which makes them 14th in the East and just 0.5 games above the Detroit Pistons for the worst record in the NBA. Washington is on an 11-game losing streak and are just looking forward to the offseason where they can add more young talent and continue to develop their core. Their next game will be on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors.
