This game featured the best team in the NBA against a young, injury-riddled team, and Jayson Tatum went nuclear to give the Boston Celtics an easy 131-91 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at the TD Garden.
The Boston Celtics have been dominant this season, as they are the best team in the NBA 50 games into the season. They are top 5 in both offense and defense while also have the best home and road record in the league. This team has all the pieces to compete for a championship, led by stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Off-season acquisitions Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis bring elite defense, floor spacing, and leadership to this core while veterans Derrick White and Al Horford are the perfect role players alongside the dynamic duo. The only question mark around this team is the bench, and it’ll be interesting to see if Boston addresses this during the trade deadline.
Jayson Tatum led the way tonight with 34 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists on 6 made three pointers. Kristaps Porzingis recorded 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 59% shooting. Derrick White had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and block on 50% shooting.
Although Marcus Smart didn't play, this was his first game back in Boston and the Celtics organization played a video tribute for the heart and soul of this team for nearly a decade. For the Grizzlies, rookie GG Jackson led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Scotty Pippen Jr had 19 points and 6 rebounds off the bench while David Roddy finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
This win improves the Celtics to 38-12 on the season. This is a good bounce back win after a disappointing loss to the Lakers without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They are 7-3 over their last 10 games and will play against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Grizzlies to 18-32, which makes them 13th in the Western Conference. Memphis is 3-7 over their last 10 games and currently on a 5-game losing streak. Their next game will be on Tuesday night against the New York Knicks.
