Jonatan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors young star, opened himself about his roots, back in Africa. Native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kuminga was recently interviewed in the podcast "Dubs Talk" and described his experience coming from there and his intentions of giving something back not just for DRC but the whole African continent as well.
“Since I was a kid, since I got to America, I always thought about just making it to a point where I could be able to go back and help. Not just to the Congo, because everybody wants to help where they came from. But I look at the point where I want to build so much where I could be able to help a lot of people in Africa, different countries, different cities.”
Incredible mentality for such a young player, having to go through a lot growing up in a country signed by 30 years of unabaited instability and surrounded by war and death.
Jonatan was inspired by Dikembe Mutombo's humanitarian activity. The former NBA player and Hall of Famer is also from DRC and has a foundation that aids a lot of people back there. Even contributing with the build of an Hospital.
“Just seeing somebody like that, it's definitely somebody that I look up to on different aspect,” Kuminga says. “The way he helped the country, the way he helped certain people, building hospitals, helping kids that were needy, sick kids and stuff like that. He’s somebody that I always talked to on the phone most of the time, and then I get to meet him in person. Obviously talking to somebody on the phone and in person is two different things. He’s way cooler. A great person in real life.”
Kuminga wants to be the voice of those who can't be heared, and being a young talented basketball player, playing in Golden State gives him the platform to contribute in making this world a more just planet.
