The Los Angeles Lakers led the Sacramento Kings by 19 points in the first quarter of Wednesday night's game. By the third quarter, they trailed by 22. In the end, the Lakers fell 130-120 to the Kings and suffered one of their worst losses of the season.
Following the painful defeat, Rui Hachimura spoke about his team and how it is time for them to "lock in."
“We just got to lock in,” Hachimura said. “We don’t have the time to relax, like today’s game. We were up like 20-something in the first quarter and all of a sudden we kind of relaxed and they were up by 20. We can’t relax anytime.”
Many followers of the Lakers were supremely disappointed by the loss, especially at this point in the season. The Lakers are now firmly in the tenth spot in the Western Conference with a 34-30 record, which means they'd barely qualify for the Play-In Tournament if it started today.
In the days ahead, the Lakers will play against the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Kings again, and Golden State Warriors - all tough opponents. If they aren't able to start scoring some wins soon, they'll be stuck in tenth place, or worse.
Head coach Darvin Ham said he knew what LA had to do moving forward. “Move the ball, shoot it when you're open. Simple as that. We've had games, we had six, seven guys in double figures, and that was the recipe. Play faster, be disciplined with your running habits. Play for one another, make the simple play, and be shot-aggressive," he mentioned after the game.
In the last few minutes of the game, LeBron James headed to the locker room without the rest of his team, either injured or just upset. At that point, the game was already lost and there was no chance of the Lakers coming back. It was a clear sign of just how rough things have gotten for the team.
