The
Dallas Mavericks are the sixth seed in the Western Conference right now, meaning they would play in the postseason if it started today. They have been led masterfully by
Luka Doncic and
Kyrie Irving all season long, a duo that is finally working as fans have always wanted.
Just the other night, the Mavericks beat the Sacramento Kings 132-96, showing that they can take down even the youngest and most exciting teams in the league.
Speaking on Mind The Game,
LeBron James spoke about what makes the Mavericks so special and fearsome to other teams.
“Kyrie’s gonna do what he does. Luka’s gonna do what he does. When Tim Hardaway Jr. hits six threes and
Dante Exum hits five threes," James explained, showing that the team has a roster that is deeper than ever.
The team finally has a group of stars that can play excellent backup to Doncic and Irving. It's not just Luka and Kyrie who are posting shots from all over the court, with others like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dante Exum also scoring from beyond the three-point line.
The Mavericks definitely do look like a team that can take on and defeat a number of other opponents. With that being said, they still have problems, including their lack of defense. They will not be able to make it far in the playoffs if they don't fix the issues with their defense, especially against monster teams like the Denver Nuggets.
James' comments shows that although the Mavericks are not yet perfect, they really are getting close to being true playoff contenders.
