Luka Doncic had all eyes on him in this game, as he had another phenomenal performance to lead the
Dallas Mavericks past the
Miami Heat 114-108 at American Airlines Center.
The 5-time All-Star has been on a tear this season and he is in the conversation to win MVP. Luka Magic is averaging 34.6 points (most in the NBA), 9.0 rebounds, and 9.8 assists (3rd in NBA) while carrying his team to a potential playoff spot after missing it completely last season. The 25-year-old is putting on a show every game and is making history as of late, becoming the 2nd player to record 5 straight 30+ point triple doubles.
In this contest, Doncic finished with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists while hitting 7 triples.
Kyrie Irving scored 23 points while Daniel Gafford recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds. PJ Washington had 10 points and 8 rebounds while Tim Hardaway Jr. recorded 11 points off the bench. Dante Exum contributed 13 points in his 17 minutes.
For the Heat,
Terry Rozier led the team in scoring, finishing with 27 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 11 assists while hitting 5 threes. Duncan Robinson also connected from deep 5 times, ending with a total of 19 points. Bam Adebayo and
Jimmy Butler each scored 14 points while Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Caleb Martin both had 13 points each off the bench.
Dallas improves to 35-28 with this win, sitting at 8th in the West and 1.5 games away from the 6th seed. This was a huge victory for the Mavs as every game counts from now till the end of the regular season. It's still anyone's race for the top 6 seeds in the conference so every win increases the chances of avoiding the play-in tournament. The Texan team is 5-5 over their last 10 games and will look to pick up another victory on Saturday against the Detroit Pistons.
Meanwhile, Miami drops to 35-27 with this loss, remaining the 6th seed. They are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers who are currently the 7th seed but luckily for the Heat, they hold the tiebreaker. Anything can happen from now till April so they need to play their best basketball to avoid the play-in tournament. The reigning Eastern Conference champs are 7-3 over their last 10 games and will look to bounce back tomorrow against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
