Point God. At only 25 years old, Trae Young now holds the FRANCHISE RECORD for assists🥶
Since 2018, Trae Young has been the biggest part of the Atlanta Hawks and many fans and analysts have assumed that he will be the future of the franchise. But that might not be the case. In fact, Young could be packing his bags and heading to another team in a matter of weeks.
According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, "many sources" think that Young will "be on the move this summer - assuming Atlanta can find a buyer."
Young is a supremely talented player but the Hawks have been dwelling in mediocrity for years now and it might be time for a change.
Losing Young could put the Hawks at a serious crossroads. They would have to formulate a new plan with a brand new guard. It could lead to a painful rebuilding process.
But the good news for Atlanta is that they could get a good return for Young, who remains a highly coveted potential trade target. There are already several teams reportedly vying for Young this summer, including the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. The thought of Young building a partnership with Victory Wembanyama is very tantalizing for many fans of the league.
That being said, Pincus' report says that other teams might be hesitant to sign Young and don't consider him a "top-tier" level talent right now. So, will the Hawks have a tough time shipping him and his contract away?
The Hawks had a 36-46 record this season. Even with the combination of Young and Dejounte Murray running the backcourt, the Hawks can't seem to break into the top half of the Eastern Conference. The Young-Murray combination has been an experiment that proved no matter how talented two stars are, they won't always lead to a lot of success.
