The first round of the NBA Playoffs 2024 already knows some of the matchups that will take place after the conclusion of the regular season. In the West, one of the confirmed series is the one between Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns, which will feature Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns as the main stars of the duel.
Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves, who will have home-court advantage in the playoffs, have completed one of their best seasons in recent years, if not the best. The franchise came very close to finishing at the top of the Western Conference, but ultimately finished 3rd with a 56-26 record. At home, they have won 30 of 41 games played, while away from home they finished with a 26-15 record.
Phoenix Suns.
The Suns, for their part, could only finish 6th in the regular season. However, considering that they qualified for the playoffs in the last game, it is not a bad result considering the context. There is no doubt that this team, despite finishing 49-33, is one of the candidates to surprise in the first round. Throughout the Regular Season, they have won 25 of their 41 home games, and 24 of their 41 away games.
Stars.
- Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns): Durant has been one of the best players of the regular season. The star of the Arizona franchise averaged 27.1 points (5th in the NBA), 6.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in 75 games.
- Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves): The T-Wolves star continues to progress and complete better seasons with each passing year in the NBA. This year he has reached 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, and is the favorite to win the Clutch Payer of the Year award.
- Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns): In many games this season, it has been Booker who has taken the reins for the Suns. His numbers corroborate it: 27.1 points (6th in the NBA), 4.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game;
- Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves): Despite missing quite a few games due to injury, Towns returns for playoffs having averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 62 games.
Prediction.
I think this playoffs will be one of the surprises of the first round of the playoffs, although of course it will not be short. Phoenix Suns will give the surprise considering that the team is configured precisely for playoffs.
  • Prediction: Phoenix Suns will win in 6 games over Minnesota Timberwolves.
