The match referee explained the decision behind ejecting the
Golden State Warriors veteran forward
Draymond Green during the match against the
Orlando Magic.
The 34-year-old was ejected during the first quarter of the
match with more than eight minutes remaining. He was having a word with the
official after a foul on teammate Andrew Wiggins.
After the match, crew chief Mitchell Ervin was asked the
reason behind ejecting Green and he revealed that it was done after the player used
offensive language towards one of the match officials.
"After a prolonged diatribe, Green directed egregious
profane language towards a game official," he said. "No, his actions
met the standard for a technical foul, which was his second technical foul,
which results in an automatic ejection."
Ervin was further asked whether the player's dismal
disciplinary record played a role in the referees’ decision, to which he responded:
"Absolutely not."
It was not the first time when Green was in the news for committing
technical fouls. He has now committed 10 technical fouls this season in just 47
matches.
The Warriors went on to secure an important win over the
Magic side with a score of 101-93 at the Kia Center on Wednesday. Despite that
win, the Warriors remain in the 10th position in the Western
Conference with 38 wins and 34 defeats.
