On Thursday night,
San Antonio Spurs rookie
Victor Wembanyama became the first NBA player to record 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks, and 5 made three-pointers in a game. That was part of yet another stunning performance from the potential Rookie of the Year winner and helped the Spurs secure an impressive win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
That was an NBA record but there are others that Wembanyama could break very soon. He has shown that even in his first year, he is reaching levels of greatness that few other basketball stars reach.
Is it possible that Wembanyama scores the most blocks in a single game? That record is currently held by Elmore Smith, who put up 17 blocks in a game. Wembanyama's best number so far this season is 10 blocks during his February 12 game against the Toronto Raptors.
What about the most blocks in a career? Right now, Hakeem Olajuwon holds the record with 3,830 blocks over his years in the NBA. It's very possible that Wembanyama can reach that number if he keeps up the pace he has started with. He is putting up 3.3 blocks per game right now, a league-high. Over the next few years, Wembanyama might be able to better master his body and skills and earn even more blocks per game and overcome Olajuwon's record someday.
There are plenty of other records that Wembanyama might break. For example, maybe he will pass Manute Bol's 18 games with 10+ blocks or the most five-by-fives. He just earned his first one the other day and the NBA record also goes to Olajuwon who had six. Can Wembanyama reach that number?
Of course, there is also a good chance that Wembanyama could someday also claim the top prize in the NBA: a championship.
